Welcome to Digital Microscopes .Com where finding digital microscopy equipment for your school or research facility is as simple as searching our internet store. USB microscopes have the unique ability to directly connect to a laptop or pc computer via the computer’s USB port. The digital microscope has a built-in camera that captures video and digital still microscopic images and outputs to the computer.
While a genuine “digital” or “USB” microscope actually has the camera integral to the scope’s head, you can take most any microscope and turn it into a digital capture device with the use of a USB microscope camera. This type of camera is often called an eyepiece camera since it can fit into the ocular opening of the scope once the eyepiece is removed. It can also fit into the top trinocular photographic port if a standard 23mm ID phototube is included with the microscope accessories. It is generally less expensive to take a normal classic style of microscope and retrofit a digital microscope camera to it. The other good thing is that when upgrading to a higher resolution digital camera at some future point, you don’t need to contact the original seller of the microscope. You can simply buy the latest eyepiece camera on the market. Heads that have an integral camera are more complicated to service and repair and upgrade as needed.
What type of a digital microscope do I need? This is a question often asked by students and those needing such optical equipment for capturing digital images and videos. First, keep in mind, that just like buying a consumer electronics camera at your local camera store, buying a USB camera presents a multitude of options. For the lower cost units, expect a reasonable digital jpg or avi video capture resolution and speed. But for research grade and high-end documentation of your digital microscopic images, you generally need to buy the higher priced USB microscopy equipment. Resolutions and overall speed of capture and video frames as well as color rendition can vary considerably from a low-end student version compared to a research laboratory grade equipment.
What about software incompatibilities and difficulties in loading the drivers and software for the USB digital microscope on the computer? This can be an issue as any who loads drivers for hardware devices would know. Our staff is well trained and has the same models available to them, with the different computer operating systems. So if you call with a problem in loading the software and making the camera work, our trained technicians can assist you in getting the equipment to perform as needed. Beware of buying from an internet store who only knows how to buy, distribute, and sell the microscopes but has no ability to assist with software and troubleshooting of the equipment.
Whatever your needs are, keep in mind that our helpful and friendly staff of microscopists are available and capable of assisting you in finding your solution. Just call or email today for the support you need.
